The asanas will help cure backache due to a week lower back.However, do get yourself medically checked, as your backache may also be due to the following reasons:
- Osteoarthritis: Caused by breakdown or eventual loss of cartilage of one or more joints.If it affects the spine, it may cause severe backache.
- Slipped disc: Caused by part of a vertebral disc bulging through the connective tissue.May result from twisting your body while lifting something heavy or in an awkward position.
Handy tips
- When you are working out, attempt light exercises, which don’t strain your back, especially the lower back.
- Opt of movements that gently exercises and strengthen your bones, such as brisk walking or climbing stairs.
- If your back aches, avoid bends, twists or turns.Allow your lower back to rest.
- Avoid any activity that stresses the spine and its surrounding region.
- Consume a wholesome diet rich in proteins, by increasing intake of pulses and green vegetables.
- Increase intake of milk, yoghurt, soyabean, garlic and green leafy vegetables.A diet rich in calcium and proteins provides ample proteoglycons, which boost bone and joint health.
- Have a hearty breakfast, moderate lunch and a light dinner.
- Always bend at your knees to lift anything, as this takes the strain off your back.
- Don’t sit in a particular position for long spells.Take regular breaks to stretch and move.
- Don’t slouch, as that puts the lower back under tremendous strain.
Home remedies
- Go Garlic: Grind 10 gm garlic into a smooth paste.Heat it with mustard oil and massage into your back.Wash off with warm water after a couple of hours.This relaxes the muscles and relieves pain.
- Oil’s Well: Warm a small bowl of mustard oil and vigorously massage your back with it.Wash off with warm water after a couple of hours.This prevents muscular spasm and strengthens spinal muscles and nerves.
- Mix Fix: Combine turmeric, ginger and fenugreek powders to make 1 tsp.Add to a glass of warm milk and drink.Relieves overall body and strengthens immunity.
