Caring In Formative Years

The formative years are important for everyone as they influence and affect an individual’s behaviour in later years.Children should feel secure and loved right from conception.It is important for them to learn values, like sharing, talking to one another kindly etc.Parents should take time out to be with children and teach these values by setting an example at home itself.
They should learn to respond to each child as per his/her needs.Rather than imposing their expectations on the children, they should allow each child to grow at his/her own pace and nurture and cultivate their talents.
Starting from pregnancy, the first four to five years are crucial in the life of an individual.How a child bonds with his mother through the feeding and nappy changing sessions and with the father, who should help and care for his wife and child, determines how secure, loved and cared for he will feel.These are important, irrespective of whether children are young or grow up.
Spend time together as a family, however busy you may be; children need to learn and feel at ease communicating without any fear of being misunderstood or retribution.Television, and even cellphones should be turned off to cut unnecessary distractions.Substitute the time with broad games, walks and other activities which help you to bond better.
Meal times must be seen as sacred family time, when members come together to share the days happenings.Do this at least two or three times a week.Communication should be positive and appreciative.
Show that you care.It is important to tell children how you feel and not take it for granted that it’s understood.Children should also feel comfortable telling you the same.Being tacitly expressive is also important; a pat on the back, a warm hug, all can go a long way in building a confident and loving person.
